Why I Love This Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
- Simple ingredients: This protein yogurt recipe is basically made up of just protein powder, greek yogurt and milk! I added a few more ingredients for the best texture and flavor but you can easily make this frozen yogurt right at home without any fancy ingredients.
- Protein-packed: Each pint makes two hearty servings, and each serving has about 30g of protein!
- Healthier alternative: You all know I love the real deal when it comes to sweets, but this protein frozen yogurt truly tastes good even though it's made with protein powder and greek yogurt. It's perfect for making as an afternoon snack or refreshing dessert on hot summer days or just when you want something easy to satisfy your sweet tooth.
- Easy to make: All you need is just a few minutes the blend all your ingredients together (and you can do it right in the creami container - no extra dishes necessary) then freeze and let the Ninja Creami ice cream maker do it's thing for the best frozen treat!
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Plain greek yogurt: For the creamiest texture, you want to use greek yogurt instead of regular. I've used Fage 2% plain yogurt & Costco's nonfat and both were creamy! Fage has a bit more of tangy flavor.
- Protein powder: The Just Ingredients Strawberries & Cream Protein Powder has the best flavor and adds just the right amount of sweetness, tartness, and strawberry flavor without tasting artificial. It also blends so smoothly so you don't taste any gritty texture or clumps.
- Pudding powder: This helps to add flavor and also acts as a thickening agent. I used no added sugar cheesecake pudding mix but vanilla or white chocolate pudding mix works too! Your pudding mix doesn't have to be sugar-free, just make sure it's the instant pudding mix (not the cook and serve kind).
- Vanilla extract: I use my high quality vanilla for this but any works!
- Milk: I usually use 2% milk for this but any milk works (the lower the fat, the less creamy it will be).
How to Make Ninja Creami Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
Step 1: Mix Ingredients & Freeze
Mix all ingredients in the Ninja Creami container. Be sure to mix well. Freeze pint container for 12-24 hours.
Tip: If you're prepping several containers at one time you can also blend all the ingredients in a regular high-powered blender and just divide evenly amongst the creami containers.
Step 2: Spin
Spin on the Ninja Creami Frozen Yogurt setting. Once done, add 2 tablespoons milk and respin.
Tip: Texture should be smooth & creamy. If not, add a little more milk and spin again.
Step 3: Enjoy!
Top your homemade strawberry protein frozen yogurt with sliced strawberries, raspberries, chocolate shell, or even a drizzle of melted white chocolate!
Tips & Variations
- Prep in advance: Make sure to allow your pint at least 12-24 hours to freeze before spinning.
- Mix-ins: Take this protein frozen yogurt to the next level by adding your favorite mix ins to the yogurt mixture! Toss in some chopped strawberries or raspberries. You can add these on top or put them in the pint and run the mix-in cycle after the re-spin.
- Avoid icy edges: You can run your pint container under warm water for 30 seconds before running it through the ninja creami machine (or let sit out on the counter for 15-20 minutes) to avoid any icy edges. You can also run a run a butter knife or spoon along the sides after the initial spin to make sure there aren't any icy edges.
- Re-spins: If your pint isn't smooth and creamy after the initial spin, you can add a little bit of milk and re-spin until you get your desired consistency.
- Don’t overfill the container: For optimal results, make sure not to overfill the pint container. The frozen yogurt will expand in volume as it spins so don’t worry if it looks like the pint isn’t initially full.

Storage & Freezing
Use a spoon to smooth and level out the top of the remaining frozen yogurt in the Ninja Creami container and place back in the freezer. When ready to eat, re-spin the frozen pint until desired consistency.
You can also transfer frozen yogurt to another freezer-safe container and freeze. When ready to enjoy, let it thaw on the container for a bit or microwave it for 5-10 seconds to soften.
Frequently Asked Questions:
In case you've missed the craze over the last year, the Ninja Creami is a ice cream machine that allows you to make individual pints of frozen treats like ice cream, sorbet, gelato, smoothie bowls, and even protein-packed frozen yogurt.
It is normal for your creami to be crumbly and powdery after the first spin. When you add the 2 tablespoons of milk and respin, thats when the magic happens! After the first respin if your frozen yogurt still isn't creamy enough you can add a little more milk and re-spin again (or until your desired consistency).
Yes you can! However, the strawberry flavor comes from the protein powder so you would need to flavor it another way. That said, I promise there's no gritty texture or overly-strong flavor with the Just Ingredients protein powder. Plus, it's such an easy way to sneak in extra protein! I can't speak for other powders but if you give them a shot, be sure to report back!
I have not tried this recipe yet using dairy-free yogurt or coconut yogurt. If you give it a shot, be sure to report back!
