Turn my popular one bowl chocolate chip cookies into DIY cookie mixes! Simply add the dry ingredients to a bag, store in the pantry, and have warm cookies in under 20 minutes (no mixer or mess needed!).

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Granulated & Brown sugar: You can use light or dark brown sugar (I used dark for the cookies above!).
- Baking soda, baking powder, and salt
- All-purpose flour: You can also use your favorite gluten-free flour to make this gluten-free. My favorite brand is Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour.
- Chocolate chips: You can use any mix-ins you want! Dark chocolate chips, peanut butter chocolate chisp, and m&m's are some of my faves! If you use all chocolate chips, I highly suggest chopping or pulsing half of the chips so that you get a bakery-style look & texture.
- To bake mix, you'll need: Melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. This recipe uses melted butter, so no mixer is needed! You can use salted or unsalted butter for these, I just don't recommend using margarine or the dough will be too soupy.
How to Make DIY Cookie Mixes:
Next time you're baking cookies, grab a few ziploc bags and make some extra for next time - it's so quick & easy!
Step 1: Write Instructions on Bag or Print Tags
If you're planning to write the instructions on the bag (instead of using my printable tags), I suggest writing it on before filling since it's easier to write when it's completely flat.
On the bag, write: "Add: 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ cup (1 stick) melted butter. Roll into 2-tablespoon balls, gently flatten, and bake at 350°F 8-10 minutes."

Step 2: Add Dry Ingredients
Add dry ingredients to a quart-sized bag: light brown sugar (½ cup), granulated sugar (¼ cup), baking soda (¼ teaspoon), baking powder (¼ teaspoon), and salt (¼ teaspoon), all-purpose flour (1¼ cups), chocolate chips (½ whole and ½ cup chopped).
Tip: For easy filling, fold the top of the bag down a few inches, then add the sugars first as they will hold down the bag.
Gifting Idea: Wrap in Parchment
For a more giftable presentation, wrap each bag in parchment paper and tie off with a string and instruction tag. These are great for gifting new parents, college students, or to give as holiday gifts!
Mix-In Ideas
- Chocolate Chips (semi-sweet, dark, milk, or white)
- Baking chips (peanut butter, butterscotch, toffee)
- Chopped Nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, peanuts)
- Dried Fruits (raisins, cranberries, apricots, cherries)

Instructions
- Add dry ingredients to the bag in this order: ½ cup light or dark brown sugar, ¼ cup granulated sugar, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup chocolate chips, m&m's, or mix-ins.
- On the bag, write the following (or print off my free tags!):"Add: 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ cup melted butter (i.e. 1 stick). Roll into 2-tablespoon balls, gently flatten, and bake at 350°F 8-10 minutes."
- Store in pantry for 1-2 months. Each bag makes about 1 dozen cookies.

Hi, I would like to make this for a friend of mine for her birthday.
This seems really good, but my friend is gluten free - so would i be able to replace the flour with almond or oat flour? If so, should I change the amount of the flour I add? I read somewhere else that you have to add more flour than usual when using oat flour, but it didn't say how much.

Hi! I've found a half/half blend of almond flour & GF 1-to-1 flour is best for doughs like this. It keeps it chewy & soft whereas just the GF flour is a bit dry, in my opinion.
Is there a specific way you should tell them to add the dry ingredients to a bowl or should they just mix all of that and then add the wet ingredients?
I used to make up these mixes when my kids was little and the house was full of neighbor kids, niece's and nephews. I didn't add the add ins till later. The cookie and pancake mix was used the most. I would make large batches and store in a large container (empty cheese ball container) then write instructions on the outside like.........
2 cps cookie mix
1 egg
1 stick butter
1 tsp vanilla
Any add in you want, skip vanilla if making lemon.

Hi, Bernadette! Yes, you can! There is a place to adjust the number of servings (right under the bake time). The recipe as written is 12 servings. You can just tap the plus sign to adjust the servings. Hope this helps!

How many cups of each do you add in if you are using multiple mix-ins. Ex: Rockstar. Would you do 1/4 cup each?

Yeah, you can do up to 1 cup total of any mix-ins! I would do at least 1/2 cup of chocolate chips & then the other 1/2 cup split between whatever you want.
I wondered, if I keep the bags in the freezer would it extend the longevity?
I haven't done it but I think it would be fine as long as you get out and keep out all moisture, ideally through vacuum sealing!
