Homemade Chocolate Pudding

Ditch the box and make this decadent homemade chocolate pudding to satisfy your chocolate dessert cravings! Using common pantry ingredients, this rich and creamy pudding can be made at home in the microwave!

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips


  1. In a large microwave-safe bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa, and cornstarch. Add in milk, one cup at a time, and whisk until smooth and all lumps dissolve.
  2. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Once 3 minutes are up, leave bowl in microwave and carefully stir the mixture. Cook at 1 minute intervals, stirring after each minute, for 2 to 3 minutes, or until pudding is shiny and thick.
  3. Remove from microwave and stir in vanilla and chocolate chips until smooth.
  4. Cover pudding with plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for 4-6 hours until chilled. When placing the plastic wrap, press it directly against the pudding to prevent a film from forming (not just on top of the bowl).
