Ever since coming back from living in Italy, there is a certain nostalgia about the ol’ Vino. Although we didn’t drink it morning, noon, and night, we definitely had our fill of cheap wine during the four months abroad.  We would usually have a glass or two at dinner, and I’m pretty sure the taste of white wine will forever bring me back to those quaint Italian restaurants. The times we had absolutely no idea what the menu said, the times we dined with eyeballs on our plates, or the times we dined with our professors and they forced us to try squid. Ew. That’s a memory I would like to forget.

I’ve been wanting to put together this post for awhile now, especially since the “Italian Gift Basket” is now one of my favorite gifts to give. A little wine, printable wine labels, a little corkscrew or bottle opener, a fun little cup (can we get a Amen for whoever invented that), and a fun typographic print makes the perfect ensemble to bring back those memories. So today, I designed a fun little typographic label that you can print out and adhere to a wine bottle to make for a unique presentation.

Although the image above only shows the lime green label, I made two other colors of the printable wine labels to download. The typography is bold & the label can be used to cover up those sometimes boring labels!

While scouring the internet for other fun items to include in my Italian Gift Basket, I ran across the cutest Etsy shop, Rock The Custard (update: their shop closed), who specialize in fun, typographic wall art prints. As a Graphic Designer, I’ll admit that I’m very picky about typography, but these people have it in the bag. One look at their shop and you’ll see why I’m raving about it. The prints are witty, the type is spot on, and the color combos are limitless. And no, I’m not getting paid to say this. I’m just a huge (design nerd) fan.

This is so cute! How did you stick your wine label on? Did you print it on a special kind of paper, or did you just use tape?”

Thanks so much, Kate! I printed on #80 cardstock and just adhered with some strong double stick tape! Cardstock works best since normal computer paper has the tendency to buckle (plus, I just like the look of thicker paper). I also recommend sticking the new label over the original label since I always find that paper-to-paper contact adheres better (rather than taping directly to the glass). Hope that helps! :)
